Canal Camp 2009
I help, a little, to restore the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal
This camp concentrated on a lock to the west of Cwmbran, just south of Pentre Lane. Here we hacked at vegetation and cleaned all the fiddly roots and stems growing in a retaining wall. I shamelessly grabbed at the opportunity to dig the infill out of the bywash channel, a neat U-shaped gully lined with bricks that would allow water to avoid the lock when it was being emptied for maintainance.
